Eliminating Christian Privilege

“…removing Christian privilege so that our government complies with the Constitution is not persecution. Eliminating religious privilege is not the same as eliminating religious freedom. If ‘ministers of the gospel’ get a tax break that is not available to anyone else, the government is correct to end that break. This is simply ending unconstitutional favoritism the government is showing towards religion, as FFRF’s successful lawsuit against the parsonage housing allowance has shown. This is not hostility, it is equality.” -Andrew Seidel

Religious Hoax?

What we appear to want most seems to be a hope that lies beyond death. Therein lies the possibility for a successful hoax. We want more than this life to which most religions will comply with a story that confounds logic.

God: Prolific Abortionist?

“It has been estimated that 50% of all human conceptions end in spontaneous abortion, usually without a woman even realizing that she was pregnant. In fact 20% of all recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage. There is an obvious truth here that cries out for acknowledgment: if God exists, He is the most prolific abortionist of all.” -Sam Harris, “Letter to a Christian Nation”

Insufficient Evidence

“Insufficient evidence is that concept that you accept as crystal clear, precise and objective when addressing the claims of other religions, and suddenly it becomes a vague, unclear and ill defined idea when you have to think about the claims of your own.” -Luiz Fernando Zadra

from Sam Harris

“Thousands of people have written to tell me that I am wrong not to believe in God. The most hostile of these communications have come from Christians. This is ironic, as Christians generally imagine that no faith imparts the virtues of love and forgiveness more effectively than their own. The truth is that many who claim to be transformed by Christ’s love are deep, even murderously, intolerant of criticism. While we may want to ascribe this to human nature, it is clear that such hatred draws considerable support from the Bible. How do I know this? The most disturbed of my correspondents always cite chapter and verse.” – Sam Harris, “Letter to a Christian Nation.”

Sin’s Origin and Antidote?

“The very concept of sin comes from the Bible. Christianity offers to solve a problem of its own making! Would you be thankful to a person who cut you with a knife in order to sell you a bandage?”

— Dan Barker, FFRF co-president in “Losing Faith in Faith: From Preacher to Atheist”

We Don’t Know Yet?

“I have never understood why the fallback position to unanswerable questions about the universe is that an all-powerful, all-knowing being intervened. To me, ‘we don’t know yet’ is a fine response.”

—Robyn Blumner, columnist and editor, The St. Petersburg Times, Aug. 8, 2004

God By Any Other Name? – Sam Harris

“When the stakes are this high – when calling God by the right name can make the difference between eternal happiness and eternal suffering, it is impossible to respect the beliefs of others who don’t believe as you do.”

― Sam Harris, author, philosopher, and neuroscientist

Execute Painfully?

“Why make executions more painful? People were burnt at the stake, drawn and quartered, skinned alive, beheaded and more. None of that has deterred more murders.

We as a society try to execute humanely. Not for the sake of the criminal but for society’s own sake because it is supposed to be about justice and not revenge.”   -LaDon Aridge quoted in USA TODAY, May 2, 2014
