We Only Have Today

Sometime in the distant past,

I learned that these would seldom last;

A friend, a love… a fire.

What’s brought to life… too soon expires.

Life and living can seem so long,

Until you get to the end of your song.

The days, the months, the years, an age.

What’s brought to life… too soon expires.

There isn’t much to my song,

Just an old man reminiscing long,

While grasses fade to yellow straw.

Flowers bend, their beauty fades,

Leaves will lose their grip and fall.

What’s brought to life… too soon expires.

(A song/poem about aging and death)

There is no God?

“Believing there is no God gives me more room for belief in family, people, love, truth, beauty, sex, Jell-O and all the other things I can prove and that make this life the best life I will ever have.”

—Penn Jillette, “There Is No God,” NPR’s “This I Believe” series, Nov. 21, 2005
